Trigger Point Injections

Trigger points are what most people call ‘knots’ in muscles- small areas of tightness located within a muscle fibre. Trigger points can cause discomfort, tightness and pain referral. Trigger point injection therapy involves injecting a small amount of sugar solution and anaesthetic directly into the trigger points. This can release the trigger points, allowing muscle to relax and decrease pain & referral associated with the trigger point.

Prolotherapy and treatments by Dr. Alexa Chichak, ND who is based in Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver, BC

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is an injection technique to create new growth of tendons and ligaments (proliferation) to treat tendon, ligament and joint injuries. A concentrated sugar solution mixed with anesthetic will be injected, bringing blood flow and healing factors to the area. The first appointment includes a thorough history & physical exam of the areas of injury, followed by the injections. For best results, we recommend 3-6 visits spaced a few weeks apart. Areas of injection offered include: shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, knees, ankles, feet, and more.

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections by Dr. Alexa Chichak, ND who is based in Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver, BC

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections

PRP, much like prolotherapy, is an injection technique to treat tendon, ligament and joint injuries. PRP, however, utilizes the body’s own abilities in order to create healing. Normal blood is comprised of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets contain growth factors that are important for tissue regeneration and collagen production. Platelet—rich plasma is the portion of the blood that is rich in platelets. We inject these platelets into areas of discomfort, pain or injury in order to supply the area with nutrients for regrowth and healing. For best results, we recommend 3 visits, spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Areas of injection offered include: shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, knees, ankles, feet, and more.
